Codex is for developers who want OpenAI's coding agent in the CLI, an IDE, a desktop app and the web, and who like a tool that ships often. October brought a lot: GPT-6.1 Sol became the default model in the CLI catalog, GPT-5.5 retired from ChatGPT-signed-in Codex on Oct 14, and CLI 0.163.0 (Oct 15) added a searchable /config panel, mid-response steering and parallel read-only tools. The desktop app also gained composer predictions in beta, which suggest your next prompt as an editable draft but never send it for you. Source
